A panel of three industry leaders will discuss how metal building products support the increasing demand for sustainable building practices. Often viewed as a glamour product because of its versatility, metal components can also bring high performance to any projects.

Two architects will discuss their selection process for metal building components on recently executed projects. Rick Schneider, FAIA, principal of ISTUDIO Architects, Washington, D.C., will talk about the Marvin Gaye Recreation Center in Washington. Hafsa Burt, studio head, hb+a Architects, San Francisco, will present her vision for a modular residential construction that can fit in any environment, which she calls the Box Factory.

Providing technical insight and bringing his extensive knowledge of metal components and sustainable building practices will be Bob Zabcik, P.E., technical director, Metal Construction Association.

Attendees can earn 1 AIA Learning Unit. Certificates of completion will be available.

Understanding Pre-Painted Metal

Thurs., Apr. 15, 2021 2:15pm ET / 11:15am PT

More information and register here

What Is Pre-Painted Metal?

The surface coating is the first line of defense in pre-painted metal, and one of the most important elements to consider as part of a metal purchase. Selecting the right coating, finish, and paint system can affect product lifespan, energy efficiency, and aesthetic appeal. This course discusses the composition of pre-painted metal, its application, and performance, and examines the building and environmental factors that may influence the type of paint system specified.

Attendees can earn 1 AIA/HSW Learning Unit. Certificates of completion will be available.

An Aluminum-Zinc metallic coating (Al-Zn), commonly known by the trade name Galvalume® or ZINCALUME®, reflects coated steel which is designed to provide superior, long lasting corrosion resistance. Aluminum-Zinc metallic coated roof products can come in many forms, including bare and painted products, and can be formed into a vast array of shapes and sizes including standing seam roofs, corrugated profiles, and stamped metal shingles. Today these products are used extensively throughout the US. This presentation provides an overview of this coating, its advantages as well as design and installation best practices.

Attendees can earn 1 AIA/HSW Learning Unit. Certificates of completion will be available.
